Wendy Williams You Know Enough To Not Try HBCUs! But you tried it…

Uncategorized

Most of you know who Wendy Williams is correct? If not I will give you some background Wendy Williams in simple terms is a radio personality who now has her own television show. Who is known for her trash talking and getting the facts out of folks which is her job if I must say. Simple right? Right, well her trash talking has gotten her in trouble like it always has but this time with the wrong group of people. Historical Black College/University students also known as HBCU students is the group that has been firing Wendy up. Maybe not fire…the hot chicken grease for fried chicken Wednesday is what they are dipping her into. Only my HBCU students would know what I am talking about. I digress. As she was speaking about the powerful Jeese Williams speech on the BET Awards…well I will let you read her statement yourself:

“I must say to you, he was on BET. His speech was very poignant,” Wendy says on her show this week. “On the other hand, I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically Black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP.”

After her statement she then says “racism sucks” maybe that was her way of trying to make things up but I was already fed up at that point.

  • For someone who is going into the same field that she is already in she probably said that to further herself and the show into the press. Think about it if folks talk about you…you are relevant!

will-smith-gif[1]

  • For someone who currently attends an HBCU (going into my junior year) and knows their history HBCUs were founded during a time where African Americans (Black) could not go to college (my school was founded in 1869) so we decided to make our own. Caucasians (White) did not have to worry about that during that time but we still gave their schools an acronym which is PWI which stands for predominately white institution. HBCUs are not meant for only African American students not at all we accept all walks of life that is just a stereotype that we have since we have majority of African American students and professors at some schools. Majority of the time any other race will receive a minority scholarship for attending an HBCU! Of all things Wendy didn’t attend an HBCU she went to Northeastern University. Don’t speak on anything if you do not have any knowledge of it! Plus, I am a memeber of the NAACP so you telling me that the organization that I am a member of offends people? Ok. Caucasians have more than enough organizations to help them.

  • For someone who actually enjoys Wendy Williams and what she does for entertainment it is almost disheartening for her to try to get in on something that is very controversial in this day in age. Not saying she cannot speak on issues but know what you are saying before you say the wrong thing. Some are comparing her to Stacy Dash who has pretty much been deemed “whitewashed.”

Now a person who I have always looked up to that gathered Wendy all the way together has to be Roland Martin here is what he had to say:

Everything he said is so true because it simply felt as if she did not educate herself enough.

Ian Connor What Is Going On?!?! You Fight Your Folks? Mann…(Video)

Uncategorized

“The hip-hop world giveth, and the hip-hop world taketh away.”Marlow Stern

Well, folks you probably already know but I will let you know again Ian Connor has gotten into a fight with Theophilus London and A$AP Bari on Tuesday (Jun. 23) in Paris. Yea, it does low key makes me sad too. From my understanding Ian Connor is the creative consultant for Kanye West and is a stylist closely affiliated with the A$AP Mob. So he is making some major moves. But this last move…well punch wasn’t his best move and may have canceled him out of the underground fashion world as a whole. Some say that all of this tension is over Ian being recently accused of raping women. Which he has denied. None, of his famous homies have spoke on it until now. Here is a video from Complex that explains:

The fight broke out at Virgil Abloh’s Off-White book signing at the Colette store which to me probably was a big enough event to set aside all problems for that time. In the video you see a distressed Ian being yelled at by A$AP Bari. So in his distress Ian throws I guess you can say punch at Theophilus London a rapper who is quite taller than Ian and probably was the tallest human in the building at that time. Theo was not able to get his hands on Ian fast enough before A$AP Rocky stops the raging Theo. But then like a thief in the night Bari steals a NASTY combo on Ian. Which from what I could see connected quite well.

Next, you will see in the video Ian coming out of the store and once again gets snuffed by who…..BARI!!! For Bari size he is quite quick with the hits. Makes me want to practice my hits. *Right hooks* But before Bari could throw another combo on em he is stopped. Per usual all because the fight is over does not mean the feud is over they take it to social media: (It is a lot to read)Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.54.07Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.54.16Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.53.34 Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.53.41 Screenshot 2016-06-25 12.08.57Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.53.26 Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.53.16 Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.53.08 - Copy Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.52.57 Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.52.49 Screenshot 2016-06-25 11.52.41

Overall, y’all this has to be over something way deeper. Accusations are being thrown around and business is being told….messy? Yes. Could be all business issues that turned personal or personal issues that are messing with business. Either way I wish the best for everyone. From what I am reading and hearing Ian just needs to humble himself. Ian has inspired many people in his career including me when it comes to a small piece of my style he is one of the reasons why I bought a pair of Sketchers. Maybe they can reconcile their differences and continue to make art. When and how that is going to happen? This blogger does not know. Since Rocky is the mutual force between the two maybe he can help. They just need some milk!

Desiigner Has #NoBroadsInAtlanta! Did He Really Scam The ATL Greek Picnic? $10,000?

Uncategorized

If you do not know who Desiigner is he is the rapper that made the catchy hit song “Panda” you know the song…”

Panda, Panda
Panda, Panda, Panda, Panda, Panda

I got broads in Atlanta

Yea, that guy. Who everyone says sounds like Future! But, I digress.

So if you know anything about greek life you probably know about the Divine 9 which has 4 sororities and 5 fraternities and every year the Atlanta Greek Picnic is held to celebrate the unity of the Divine 9. Long description short it’s a fun time for members of Divine 9 organizations and non-greek folk.

The rapper is getting flamed on social media after he felt the need to skip out on a…PLANNED….performance at the picnic. June 10 was going to be the day that he needed to appear but from what I am reading he never appeared and running off with $10,000. Yea, 10 stacks, 10 Gs, 10…how ever else you may say it. Organizers of the event went to the wonderful website of Twitter to express how they felt: (Thanks Bossip)

You see it…A PRIVATE JET?!?! Let’s be real here. The world doesn’t even play with him like that.

Screen Shot 2016-06-16 at 2.34.11 PM

So what social media was next on the list? My favorite Instagram where folks were commenting the not so well used corn emoji to let him know what he did was very corny! Cute right? Yea, I know.

Screen Shot 2016-06-16 at 2.23.41 PM

So what made him skip out? Why would he skip out on a big performance like this? What other bridges has he burned? Overall, I must say this no matter what you do in life…HUMBLE YOURSELF!!!

“Rewear It” by M.I.A The Video That’s Supporting H&M World Recycle Week

Uncategorized

So I am what you may call a “growing fan” of M.I.A since she first came out so I have been growing for a while but this new campaign that she has going on with H&M might have stapled her into my heart. What is the campaign you may ask? Well, it is the World Recycle Week that last from April 18-24 where it encourages you and I to drop off unwanted clothing. No matter the brand or condition. If you want to take those old Easter Sunday clothes your mama gave you years ago that you know you are not going to wear anymore…take those to your local H&M or just be stuck with them…FOREVA!! *Cardi B Voice* In the effort to gain awareness to the campaign M.I.A released “Rewear It“, a new video and song that has her dancing on a piles of fabric with some cool little dances moves. Something that stood out to me would be that the video was shot all around the world not only in the United States but in other places such as China and Africa. It showed the positive impact of donating clothing to H&M.

M.I.A said, “If all [H&M] do is go and inspire another high-street brand to get in on caring and being conscious, or if H&M gets criticized for any of their factory processes, these are all good things,” and “We should discuss them in public and we should have this back and forth At least they’re even stepping into the [environmentally conscious] arena. Any of those things is progressive, and I think you have to give it a chance.”

So pretty much to keep it short this blogger will be donating his clothes very soon.

Why Refuse to Police Beyonce’s Concert Tampa Police?

Uncategorized

Tampa, Florida police you cannot be serious. “Anti-police” performance since when? When it comes to Beyonce I always expect a show and her performance at the Super Bowl was nothing short of one. Even though my team loss #KeepPounding but I digress. Reportedly, the police officers in Tampa are feeling some type of way due to the Super Bowl halftime performance that had Beyonce’s back up dancers in “Black Panther-style” costume. Along with the “Transformation” that showed young African American children standing before riot police and “stop shooting us.” A sign-up sheet for off duty officers willing to pull security for the concert on April 29 still remains blank at Raymond James Stadium. Steve Hegarty a spokesman for the Tamapa Police Department told the Times “This is a couple of months away, so we’ve still got plenty of time to fill those slots.” Beyonce’s latest musical work has a struck with pro-police groups around the country. Some even feel the need to call for a Beyonce boycott. Wait till the Beyhive get a hold of them they will stop real quick.

Now help me understand…POLICE FEEL LIKE BEYONCE DO NOT WANT THEM AROUND?!?!? If that was the truth she would say it. I am very confident she would. “Anti-police” message…really? If anything she has the money to hire security instead of the police. So this is not a big issue to me per usual police are trying to find a reason to get back on good terms with society and make everyone seem as if they are against them.

Top 5 Stylish Folks Of 2015 (In Order)

Uncategorized

As 2015 comes to a close this blogger can honestly say that this year has been a very big year for fashion not only high fashion but for the underground fashion world also. Seems as like this year many underground styles have came to the forefront of fashion for example Kanye West of course with his very basic color/style clothing that has been popular for a while it just never was as big till now. Many items came back such as ripped jeans that are actually hand ripped and not factory ripped….ya we know who you are. Now this list that I am about to give you is my honest opinion of who I thought was the most stylish, best dressed, and looked the best in 2015. Oh and in my true nerdy style if you click on any of the pictures or GIFs it will take you to something about that person either an article about them or their music something of that nature…and every name it linked to their Instagram pages. Here it is:

#5 Ian Connor

You may not know him but Ian Connor also know as the self proclaimed “King of the Youth” getting out from under the shadows of Tumblr and has arised as a underground fashion icon within 2015. In my eyes. From being featured in the Shabba music video by A$AP Mob memeber A$AP Ferg to becoming close with A$AP Mob headliner A$AP Rocky to multiple interviews has made waves. Now Ian Connor is kind of the new age grunge/dirty looking kind of dresser which for some reason I enjoy watching. Overall Ian Connor to me was one of the best dressed of 2015 believe or not. I mean I can’t even front I swag jocked him when he made Skechers lowkey poppin for a while. I been wanted a pair just didn’t know which pair. (Check the picture below). “I’m forever the underdog. I don’t care what I accomplish. I’m always going to be underestimated based off of my size or the way I look or the way I talk sometimes.” – Ian Connor (Complex.com Interview)

#4 Nicki Minaj

Even though she is close to the bottom on my list I will always be apart of #TeamMinaj till the day I die. This year was a very transforming year for the rapper when it came to fashion starting out she was what some called the “black Lady Gaga” she has shed that title and has become something very serious and a inspiration with women’s fashion. From the rapper being the face of the Roberto Cavali Spring 2015 to the red carpets she walked of award shows and won awards…plenty of times. Her outfit game this year has really capitalized her music but everything she does to me goes together so well from the music to the outfits. Oh and of course the hair was always on point. I LOVE YOU NICKI!!!

 #3 Solange Knowles

Solange has used that energy from beating up her sister’s husband Jay-Z into some wonderful outfits. To be honest when her wedding hit the internet waves that was when ish got real with fashion. Along with pictures because many people replicated her iconic wedding picture…that I have failed to replicate. It’s coming y’all I swear. Every red carpet she was styling and profiling except for the Met Gala I am still in-between when it came to the saucer dress but I digress. Solange this year did her thing and I am proud of her she has come a long way and stepped out of that elevator a new women.

Rog Walker

#2 Rox Brown

Black_Friday_WHAT_ROXMy spirit mother…UNDERSTAND ME ROX BROWN IS AMAZING!! Rox Brown this year has made major moves with working with Vic Mensa, Kylie Jenner, A$AP Rocky, and many others just check out her Instagram. While still being stylish at all timScreenshot 2015-12-31 14.58.34es. Rox Brown is a personal shopper for VFiles so she is the plug when it comes to the latest underground and high fashion designers. Rox Brown has a style that is so versatile that it is kind of hard to place her in a box when it comes to wanting to know what she is going to wear next. She is able to be a editorial model with a ball gown on to that real street denim jacket and bra type of lady while still being able to step out in a simple LBD. “Sometimes it takes that Screenshot 2015-12-31 14.55.18one fearless person to make similar people comfortable. Be that fearless person.” – Rox Brown (Thefineprintmagazine.com Interview)

#1 A$AP ROCKY

Mr. Pretty Flacko himself Rakim Mayers but you know him as A$AP Rocky is #TravisSpeaks best dressed person of 2015. This man to me has single handedly changed the world of style/fashion since Rocky hit the rap game with his Pyrex shorts and jail poses and Jeremy Scott for Adidas sneakers which I have 9 pairs of. 2015 was the year for A$AP Rocky along with the A$AP Mob even though they had a death within the group. Rest in peace A$AP Yams. With Rocky putting out hits such as L$D (Love X $ex X Dreams) off of his newest album ALLA and coming to the forefront of men’s fashion with his tailored suits. He has really stepped out of his comfort zone from when he first started as that super New York Urban/Trill
dude and without losing that has stepped into a suit and tie wearing guy with his braids and gold grille. “Fashion is almost like a religion, for me at least.” – A$AP
Rocky and that is why he is my number one for 2015.

I know I know you might be saying that this list is totally crazy. You are probably yelling at the screen saying “Where is Kanye?”, “Where is Pharrell”, and “What about Rihanna?” do not get me wrong these artist are in my top ten but I have a different opinion on when it comes to who is the best dressed. If I were to only go off of mainstream hype some of these folks would not be on this list but I am not going off of that I am going off of my own opinion and the thought of “Would I let this person dress me?” In that case all five of these people I would let dress me or give me advice on style/fashion. But how are y’all feeling about my list? Let me know.

Lamar: 11 Nominations

Swift: Seven Nominations

the Weeknd: 7 Nominations

After reviewing this list along with listening to the music again I think what I have predicted to be winners. On the other hand some of the categories I had to battle mentally to pick a winner. I think that this will be a big winner for the Weekend due to the fact that he put out so many hits along with his “Fifty Shades of Grey” feature (Earned It). I am surprised Drake and Adele wasn’t on this list more than once for “Hotline Bling”and “Hello” possibly there is a criteria nominations go by but for “Trap Queen” to be on there that is kind of different for the Grammy’s but I am still a fan of the song. I will be watching and I will be posting if I was right or not along with my Red Carpet Review…STAY TUNED!!!

SPEAKING ON IT!!!

Speaking On Myself: My Style Life

Uncategorized

Some of you may know me personally but….I am not your average dresser I guess you can say and what I have been told. To me my style is a love child of Rox Brown and Ian Connor mixed with a small bit of your 90s stylish grandad and frosted animal crackers. If that makes sense. A line that I hear a lot is, “Only you can pull that off.” In my mind I think, “Can I really? What does that mean? What if someone wore the same thing would they get the same reaction?”. On the other side of that I hear, “You make it look so easy.” Dressing “nice” isn’t something that is hard to obtain or understand. I simply wear what I feel like wearing. That is why I feel as like I am a slight fashion chameleon because I never really stick with one style of dressing. Due to the fact of my mind being too rapid. Here is how I figure out my outfits I have two methods:

  • On What Side Method: When I wake up in the morning and I have not picked out my outfit the night before I pick my outfit based on what side of the bed I am on. If I wake up closes to the wall…I wear a more wallflower outfit. If I wake up on the edge of the bed I wear more of a edgy outfit per say.
  • Does Mom Approve Method: These outfits are set out the night before just like how you would set out a turkey to thaw. I either pitch the outfit to my mother (The Finance Bar) or I send her a picture of me with the full outfit on posing as if I am going to post it on my Instagram. I take pride in my mother’s opinions on my outfits that are at times “too weird for the streets” or maybe I replicated an outfit from Tumblr too hard and mixed it up too hard.

IMG_3177

Aside from that I say that my style is something that isn’t as serious as folks make it. To me I just put on clothes and walk out hoping that I do not roll my ankle in a pot hole. If you want to be a “cyber ghetto Tumblr” dressing type of person….do that. If you want to be a simple t-shirt and jeans with your favorite beat up converse….do that. If you want to be the copy Kanye and Rocky…..do that. If you have confidence in your outfit no matter how ugly people try to make it you are one of the best dressed walking.

Drake Has Released The Video for “HotLine Bling” (I Dig It)

Uncategorized

On the night of October 19th, 2015 Drake released the visual for the #2 song in the country “HotLine Bling”. Aside from the amazing women and the slight caribbean dancing at the end the video is something serious. Wasn’t too much going on like I thought there was going to be. All he had was some colorful lighting and a pretty much a box he was in and called it a video. Overall I give the video 9.5 distracting Drake hand motions out of 10. Now…I do enjoy Drake’s music but to me he is another Kanye when it comes to dancing like they try to dance and they feel the music but it doesn’t show just the way it should. I digress he can do that he has the money and the power I am just a little o’l blogger trying to get his 4-year degree. Here is the video (Click on the GIF):

Now, for my sneaker heads who are wondering where you can cop those Nike ACG Manoa Drizzy Drake had on they can be found on Foot Locker’s website. In my oh so cool technical savy way I have attached the link to the picture and it will take you right to the page to purchase them. I just might cop a pair these are in my budget.
